    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Our client, a fast growing leading South West regional firm, and national top 50 practice, is looking for a Consultant to provide both compliance and pro-active planning and transactional advice to both clients and the internal team.

    • A good depth of knowledge of property related VAT is essential.
    • May suit part time commitment if full time not sought.
    • Terms negotiable dependent on calibre and experience of applicant.


    Responsible for: Providing Specialist VAT Consultancy and Advice to a wide range of clients, and acting as internal expert point of reference taking responsibility for compliance across the whole firm.
    Working to an agreed business plan to develop and enhance the service line.

    The Job:

    • Agreeing a commercial business plan for the whole firm to enhance and develop the VAT consultancy, identifying potential advisory and consultancy opportunities.
    • Providing Specialist VAT Consultancy and Advice to a wide range of clients, across the firm
    • Acting as internal expert point of reference taking responsibility for compliance across the whole firm.
    • Establishing and maintaining the firm’s internal intranet so that it contains the relevant standards and precedents for VAT compliance, including standard letters and reports.
    • Developing detailed product notes for internal use on specific topics.
    • Providing staff and partners, including general practice partners and managers with regular updates on VAT compliance and changes in legislation. This will involve visiting each office on a regular basis to appraise qualified staff in particular, co-ordinating information, assisting Managers/Partner/Marketing on proposals and bids, presenting scenarios, and preparing information for presentations. This could include presentations to both clients and staff.
    • Keeping the VAT section of the firm’s website up-to-date and interesting, liaising with marketing to ensure that information is formatted in such a way as to encourage clients to contact the firm for more information.
    • Identifying and providing pro-active VAT marketing and PR material for use by the firm including provision of copy and creating and issuing (via marketing) newsletters etc to create a high profile for the VAT advisory business.
    • Reviewing relevant websites and liaising with outside product providers to ensure up-to-date information is available and consultancy opportunities are identified and followed up.


    Skills and aptitudes:
    a) Self-motivated, personable and able to relate to non-technical clients
    b) Confident in a Business Development role, making presentations, and networking
    c) Excellent and concise, written and oral communication skills
    d) An aptitude for understanding and interpreting technical material, and converting it into suitable terminology for all potential audiences
    e) Organised with attention to detail
    f) Proficient IT skills desirable – including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
    g) Ideally Tax related qualifications but not essential
