Your chance to join a World Leader
If you watched, listened to or read the news this morning it is likely that the Met Office played an important part in much of the coverage, over and above today’s weather forecast. The Met Office is probably best known for television and radio weather bulletins; what you may not know is that we also supply many other organisations and businesses such as the utility companies, local councils, the Military, DEFRA, the Environment Agency, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the commercial aviation and marine world (to name a few) with daily weather summaries, products and advice. Our accuracy in forecasting, advising and warning governments, businesses and individuals of what the weather has in store, for the next hour to the next season ahead, is unrivalled and respected worldwide. No other national meteorological service interprets and applies its forecasts in the same level of detail to meet such a diverse range of individual customers’ needs and only the Met Office is synonymous with both the weather and climate change.
Our Vision is to make our forecasts essential to everyone, every day. Our forecasters help everyone, everywhere, to be more confident about weather forecasting accuracy and to understand the impact the weather will have on how they live their lives, run their businesses and, even, manage the country. “Essential” describes the importance of our services and reflects our ambition that customers recognise this day-to-day.
To help us achieve our Vision we are recruiting talented individuals from across the scientific community who are passionate about meteorology, want to train as operational forecasters and would like the opportunity to work at locations worldwide. Could that be you? Would you like to be part of the Met Office an acknowledged world leader helping advice and influence the decisions of the Governments both here and abroad, the public, business, international conferences and summits?
